Well-connected public transport in the state means comfort for passengers, increased confidence, and equal opportunities for all. SMRT Corporation is at the forefront of seamless, affordable, and reliable mobile solutions in Singapore. Working closely under the supervision of SMRT Chairman Seah Moon Ming, with equal contribution from SMRT CEO Ngien Hoon Ping, the company has implemented many initiatives to benefit passengers and workplaces. In this blog, we will explore SMRT holding special contracts and tenders to boost commuters' and workers' security in the trains and wide across train stations. The SMRT Chairman initiated the plan with the objective of enhancing security across the wide network of public transportation systems.
Strengthening Public Safety At Large
SMRT, one of the leading public transport authorities has recently reviewed the current safety considerations of trains and platforms to evaluate the tenders and contracts. The influential SMRT Chairman has taken the lead while speaking at the company's inaugural Contractor's Safety Forum, which was held at Orchid Country Club and attended by more than 200 participants. As per the Chairman, 'we are making structural changes to the current safety contracts and tenders. This structured approach will also enhance the safety and reliability of the company’s train and bus services. Contractors and OEMs are integral to our ecosystem and success. SMRT is committed to partnering (them) to continuously improve the safety and health of all who work in our premises and networks".
Digital Platform for Workers
As per the new safety tenders and contracts, SMRT allows workers to use an online reporting form that is easy to access through QR codes, which is all around SMRT's work premises. On top of that, there will be a safety hotline for SMRT workers to communicate easily during emergency circumstances.
The Viewpoint of Mr. William Tan
Speaking at the forum, Mr William Tan, who chairs SMRT’s board safety and security committee, noted: “The aviation, nuclear, and oil and gas industries have far higher safety standards than us. I would like to encourage all of us to learn and adopt these standards, develop mechanisms and processes to ensure compliance, and adopt a common platform to audit (safety standards).”
Conclusion
SMRT is extending its safety precautions at the stations and inside trains by evaluating and enhancing the safety contracts and tenders. New initiatives have been taken to enrich workers and maintain transportation protection to an optimum level.
